“ABEC Rating System”

Definition: The rating system for bearings. Inline bearings are rated 1,3, 5 or 7. Seven is the best rating. ... Derivation of the term: ABEC is an acronym for the Annual Bearing Engineers Committee of the Anti-Friction Bearing Manufacturers Association. The association sets standards for bearing manufacturers. The higher the ABEC number, the more precisely the bearing is manufactured. ... An ABEC 7 bearing will spin faster (and more quietly) than a ABEC 1 bearing. Most inline bearing manufacturers use the ABEC rating system, but others reject, saying it's a poor way to judge skate bearings.

Pronunciation: A-Beck
