Metrodome Marathon Gets New Date
A scheduling conflict at the Minneapolis stadium has pushed back the indoor marathon by two weeks. The new date is April 21.

Philly Skate Rolls On

New Race Series for Canada
This summer's Coupe Quebec Roller will consist of four events for recreational and elite skaters. Distances will vary from short sprints to 20K half marathons.

This year's Bridge to Breakwater in San Pedro, CA, includes a 12K event for inline skaters and skateboarders. The scenic route hugs Los Angeles Harbor.

California Gets Its Own Inline Cup

The Dan Burger Points Series has a new name: the California Cup. The cup will be awarded to the team that racks up the most points in a series of four races from March to October.

Trading Places
Two popular weekend skate parties are swapping spots on the calendar this year. The Big Apple Roll is moving to late August (Aug. 24-26) while SkateBoston is moving to late July (July 27-29).

A California businessman's late-blooming passion for skating has led to the creation of a new event: the San Francisco Inline Marathon.

Indoor Marathoning Rolls Into Third Year
Organizers have picked April 7 as the day for the third annual Metrodome Inline Marathon. The popular Minneapolis event, the world's only indoor skate marathon, is held on the upper concourse of the Metrodome sports stadium.

24hrs Event Set for July
Hrs1
The popular 24hrs Inline is set for July 15-16 in Montreal. Eighty teams and 12 solo skaters competed last year to see who could skate furthest in 24 hours. To attract more solos, organizers have cut the entry fee in half.

The Push Is On
California skaters are trying to drum up support for the Ride It Like You Stole It Criterium (Jan. 28) in Dominguez Hills. A big skater turnout there could lead to the start of a full inline series.

Organizers have locked in a date (Nov. 3-4) and racecourse (downtown) for the inaugural Houston Inline Marathon.

Mardi Gras Marathon Canceled
Organizational problems have scuttled this year's Mardi Gras Skate Marathon (Feb. 17) in Lafayette, LA. Full refunds will be provided to registered skaters. "I'm extremely disappointed, said organizer Peggy Chiasson, "but we will have to reschedule the event for 2008."

Marathon Set for Ohio
The Buckeye State is back on the event calendar this year with the new Columbia Station Inline Marathon outside Cleveland. The event (May 13) will include a half and full marathon.

Rolling into Mainstream
Organizers of the big annual asthma bike tour in Maryland have adjusted the event's name to reflect the growing contribution of skaters. It is now the Chesapeake Bay Asthma Ride Bike Tour & Inline Roll (June 1-3). ... Way to go, skaters!

Mexican Invite
Once again this year, organizers of the Copa Mexicanida Chiapaneca are offering free room and board to skaters from outside of Mexico. The 4-day event features international-style track racing and a marathon.

Rolling the Black Ice at Golden Gate Park
San Francisco skaters will celebrate the new pavement at Golden Gate Park on Sunday with a 5K race and "Bladewalk."

Inline to Roll at Hockey's All-Star Festival
The NHL All-Star Celebration in Dallas (Jan. 20) will include a 10K casual skate and a 10K criterium for master racers. Both will loop the American Airlines Center.

Alive and Well in the North Country
Skaters will again find lots of outdoor racing in Minnesota and Wisconsin next year. Among the events are four new additions to the 2007 Event Calendar: the Online Inline Half Marathon, Big Granite, Hermantown Half Marathon and Hoyt Lakes Skate.

Hayward Goes Long
Next year's Hayward Inline Marathon (Aug. 11) will include a new event: the 39-mile Hayward Inline Challenge. Distance skaters may use the race as a warm up for the late-season ultra-marathons.

The 2007 Squiggy Classic (March 10-11) will include a time trial, in addition to its usual twilight skate and marathon. "Our race is on a 7-mile, glass smooth, freshly black-topped loop with no obstacles," the organizer tells us. ... Sounds like a winner!

Sun Sets On Tahiti Marathon
Citing falling numbers, the organizer of the Tahiti Aito Inline Skate Challenge is pulling the plug on the annual event. "Thanks to all of you Tahiti skaters for seven years of fun," he said.

Calif. Race Series Ends Sunday
Team Safe's Dana Eads hold the lead in the California Roadskating Championships, which conclude Sunday with a 100K ultramarathon in San Mateo. Less stalwart skaters can choose shorter distances, starting at 10K.

Promoter Shuffles Skaters to New Event
Buttar has canceled the Great Orlando Inline Marathon (Nov. 5). But it hasn't entirely given up on skaters. It has added a full and half inline marathon to its Avalon Park Running Festival on Nov. 4. Buttar apparently axed the stand-alone marathon due to low skater interest. Last year, only 31 skated in the inaugural event.

The number of skaters signed up for the Athens to Atlanta Road Skate (Oct. 1) hit 350 last week, and organizer say that day-of registrations could push the number to 400. Only 100 skaters had registered by mid-August 2005 when organizers decided to cancel last year's race.

Houston Marathon Postponed
Unable to find a racecourse, organizers have scrubbed the launch of the Houston Inline Marathon but plan to try again next year. This year's event crumbled when a property owner withdrew support.

NY 100K Heads Back to September
Organizers have tentatively set a date of Sept. 29 for next year's New York 100K. They hope the later date (at the end of the marathon season and after Worlds) will attract more skaters. This year's event (Aug. 26) drew 150. Next year's race will include a new Tour de France-inspired sprint championship.

Global warming claims an inline marathon! Organizers of the Ottawa Race Weekend say warmer weather makes it necessary to start the running marathon earlier, which leaves no time for inline.

The Mouse Gets a Date
Organizers have set a date of April 1 for the 2007 Disney World Inline Marathon. The early date (one day earlier than this year's) shelters the event from hurricane season.

Party Time in Pittsburgh
If you enjoy exploring cityscapes and don't mind a few hills, you won't want to miss the Hills and Thrills skate weekend next month in Pittsburgh, Pa. Not all the group skates involve drops in elevation, but enough do (the Saturday afternoon skate is called: "Where Hills Turn to Mountains") that skaters are advised to pack a spare brake pad.
