Who Says You Can't Do Both?

Canada's Jean Olivier is putting the lie to the notion that serious racers must choose between inline and ice. On Saturday, he won a silver medal in the first short-track ice World Cup of the season. Over the summer, he competed on inline skates, winning the Wolverine Inline Marathon in Detroit and finishing fourth in Saint Paul.

In 1996, after her mother was diagnosed with leukemia, Christine Ichim skated across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Today, she is one of the scientists doing the research — and thanks to the drug Interferon, her mother is still alive.
