Tight Pack

Members of Flanders (Team 3) skate in tight formation during the team time trials at Saturday's Metrodome Inline Marathon in Minneapolis. The event is unique in several ways. Not only is it an indoor marathon (skated on the upper concourse of the Metrodome sports stadium), but it's a time trial event, in which teams are ranked not on how well their fastest skaters do, but on the time posted by their fourth skater across the finish line. As a result, team work is all important. The Flanders 3 team finished seventh in the event with a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 19.2 seconds. Skating third in the paceline in this photo is Jim Flanders of Flanders Bros Cycles. The Minneapolis bike shop sponsored three of the 14 teams in the time trial event.
