Are Evenly Spaced Wheels Better?

Hi, Coach: Cado Motus claims on its website that "evenly-spaced wheels on the frame" — such as the ones sold by Cado Motus — "perform better than uneven spacings made to lower the boot." Is there any truth to this statement? Thanking you. - Vik Chandel in Chicago

Hi, Vik: The importance of evenly-spaced wheels has been accepted for years. Even before Cado Motus set up shop, most knowledgeable coaches advised skaters to avoid frames with odd spacings.

This warning was a response to one of the early 4x100mm frames made by another well-known company. The front wheel on this frame stuck way out in front of the skate. The result was a frame that was prone to bending and breaking and that did not provide a good push for skaters. Most modern frames have an even wheel spacing. So it's no longer much of an issue.
