Rollerblade is tapping into the racing know-how of Luigino to beef up its line of inline speed skates.

It is the first collaboration for the two companies: one, the world's top producer of fitness skates; the other, a top maker of racing boots and wheels.

The collaboration's first fruit will be the Rollerblade Racemachine LE speed boot, which will be released in September, company officials said.

The Racemachine LE will be a high-end racing boot made of micro- and carbon fiber, said Luigino vice president Doug Glass.

Designed jointly by the two companies, it will sport the sleek lines of a serious racing boot and will feature Luigino's buckle support system and Rollerblade's new asymmetrical lacing. (Rollerblade's new lacing system moves the laces to the outside of the foot. It introduced the system on its 2008 speed boot, the Racemachine.)

"Rollerblade and Luigino are proud to be working coherently to grow inline speed skating worldwide," Glass said. "Luigino’s expertise in manufacturing speed skates and Rollerblade’s expertise in innovative skate design makes for a unique combination that will benefit our customers, the industry, as well as our end users."

Pricing and additional products will be announced later.
