No overskating

Postby DanDannels on Tue Dec 18, 2007 2:49 am

Theeos,

That's basically how I plan to break the skating up. I will be doing sessions throughout the day. I will break it up based on traffic, weather and my bodily conditions. I have to stay loose enough to skate the next session. Once I am out of San Diego, I should have more open runs to log. Even then, I will stop after max 26 miles or two hours. I also plan on taking shorter runs in the mountains. There is going to be a lot of hard work to be done there.

Dan,
Mountains? I didn't think you were on a track where there are Mountains. Did you get my message about the $$$ thing?

draft lines

Guinness has decided that I am allowed to pace with people. I will try to keep as current an update as possible of my route and location. I would be honored to share the road with other skaters. If you care to, call your local media and see if they are interested in carrying the story, even if you don't live near the route. We can use this to raise awareness for our sport and teams. I could honestly use the help in getting the word out. Maybe we could get some face time for the local teams on the news. It's current events, health, and sports.

I will have to require that the skaters that come be able to skate comfortably at 15 mph continuously. I would prefer advanced level skaters minimal. I would also only want to have one person at a time in front of me to minimize crash dangers.

I would also want you to sign my logbook and give a written statement for Guinness. And I'd want a picture of for posterity.

I cant accept any responsibility for any injuries or debt incursions. If come to skate, you skate at your own risk. Just like me.

Also, I have received quite a few emails and suggestions from friends to post my paypal.com email address for donations for my expenses. That email address is d_dannels@hotmail.com. Thank you. I am humbled.

Transcon "paced" record attempt

Postby ultrask8 on Sat Dec 22, 2007 6:54 pm

Greetings to you, Dan! I have been reading with interest the info on your fantastic upcoming trans-continental record attempt skate.

As soon as the phone has finally stopped ringing off the hook with last minute chimney sweeping customers, I can put some time into this subject and hopefully give you some info that will prove useful to you in your quest.

Heres a few thoughts in the meantime:

Nutrition , both on and off skates, is super critical - you need the optimum fuel while under physical load (skating) and during recovery time (which is any time you are 'off skates". (referred to as 'down time').

1. Solid food in the stomach means digestion process robs some of your blood supply, meaning less energy for forward motion . For sure you need to determine if you are 'lactose intolerant' during prolonged exercise.

You need to know how many calories in what form , per hour, you need while skating, and during the "immediate recovery window" 30 minutes after a skating session.

2. Route needs to take into consideration many factors, including surface and terrain, weather and wind pattern (like Robert Burnson's info about west to east vs east to west). Jurisdictions and state vehicle code laws, mood and mentality of the populace, length and elevation gains , departure and arrival locations, and route directions (to avoid getting lost).

3. Training to prepare properly and avoid injury during the attempt.

Hopefully I can help you with some of these details, in 3 days I shut down my chimney sweep operations for 1 month holiday-then I'll have free time and I'll focus more on your project.

On the subject of skating with people you will "pace" off of, is your attempt a "solo" non drafting one or "paced" ?

Have to go to work now, (working non stop till Xmas), more later

We have made it out of California, so far. We are currently in Yuma, AZ, slowly but surely tracking across the US. We have contacted a few different news networks, hopefully someone will want to make a story out of this :)

We appreciate all the support and well wishes everyone has sent us.

We do need to start raising some more money, as funds are running low. We would appreciate any donations, but if you cannot, we could also use media coverage. Please feel free to contact your local news networks with our story. My myspace is http://www.myspace.com/13742576 . Feel free to contact us through the myspace page, or here. We check the myspace more often though.

Thanks again everyone!! Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers!

Transcon skate during winter?

Postby ultrask8 on Mon Jan 07, 2008 7:52 pm

You are skating transcon now? The RAAM and all cycling Transcon records are done between june and august, prevailing winds, weather, etc dictate the timing.

Your challenge is awesome, I salute you!!!

Danny now has an active.com page for contributions. If you can spare a few bucks for a fun cause, here it is:

I just found a dusty, old stock certificate cleaning out a desk drawer. What the heck -- might as well donate some of it to a good cause! Good luck, Danny! :)
