Disney Inline Marathon Cancelled????

Interplanetary space for discussions of inline skating

Postby ninety4 on Sat Aug 18, 2007 4:54 am

Robert, Any chance for an e-mail address for one of the Disney endurance members who are meeting off-site to determine the fate of the inline marathon? I would like to send them an answer to why the Disney marathon is special and is very meaningful to a lot of skaters. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Disney

If true, very disappointing. Last year was my first run at the Disney marathon and I brought my whole family and stayed at the Pop Century resort. My oldest participated in the youth races. I was going to make this an annual event.

I don't have the email addresses of the Disney staffers at the meeting. But the main endurance sports email address (below) may reach them.

Panch0-

Sorry to hear that :( I guess that is quite normal though after having that type of injury? Do you need physical therapy?

Take care!

PanchO, I agree with you 100% about the "stop bitching" about Disney or other skate events. But human nature being what it is, lots of luck.

More important, I hope you have a speedy recovery now that your wrist has healed enough to remove the cast. I had a broken wrist in 1975 and can still remember as if it was yesterday, the weakness and pain after the cast was removed. It took about a year before I regained most of the mobility and strength. But that was before the days of physical therapy programs that promote speedier recoveries. Best wishes and miles of smiles skating in south Florida. I hope to get down your way to skate Piccolo next year. Come skate with us when you can.

Annie... the Dr said to go back for therapy in 4 weeks! I don't know what she's waiting for! Maybe for my wrist to get even stiffer! :(

Lsk8... I am so ticked off at not being able to use my hand (mostly I am ticked I can't play Jai Alai [another one of my "hobbies"]) I really don't want to wait one whole year to be functional again! However, I hope to get up there and have a skate with you guys. I'll talk to Lenny and see if he wants to ride together whenever he comes up.

Disney Cancels Marathon

Postby Robert on Tue Aug 21, 2007 7:06 pm

Now it's official and unfortunately the news is not good.

I posted a story about it on the main site.

Here's the statement from Disney's Marques Edge:

We are committed to providing our guests with the highest level of sporting events possible. To that end, while the Walt Disney World Inline Marathon Weekend has been a fun and successful event in the past, we are now gearing up for a full slate of events that will not include the Walt Disney World Inline Marathon in 2008. Our goal and focus is always to provide fresher, newer endurance events that will create a great experience for our competitors and guests, and we feel strongly that our series of endurance events for 2008 will provide competitors and guests with the best possible experience and athletic challenge. We value the sport of inline skating and may explore adding an inline skating element to our endurance series in the future. Continue to check our website (http://www.disneysports.com) for information. For questions or concerns, you can email http://www.sports.marathon.endurance@disneysports.com.
