Great article. I've been trying to get into inline competitions and cannot find anything or any group in my area (New Mexico). It's frustrating. This artcile is a great start. If anyone has tips on how to get involved, please pass them along.

Nice.

Would it be possible to amend the title of 'Getting more involved' so that it's a bit more obvious that the focus is on gear?

(No mention of ditching the heel brake either)

Great Article for Beginners

One addition I have, is regarding the information on skates. If this is more for beginners, then let me tell you about some skates for beginners to advanced and they won't break the bank or give you blisters. The skates are PowerSlide's - http://www.powerslideusa.com/ - I have the R2's and they are $299 for the whole deal, and they are very comfortable. Also, as for socks - the Air-E-Ator's are great, get your socks here because they go to a great cause: http://www.store-laf.org/socks.html

I am not suggesting any of this because I get anything from them, I just believe in their products and I am trying to provide valuable information to people who are starting out and don't want to dump a ton of cash just to start out. Happy skating.

Super Article!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and expertise.
I just registered for my very first inline race this morning, and your guide was exactly what I needed to get started.

Many many thanks!
