Miami International Inline Marathon

Interplanetary space for discussions of inline skating

I just skated on this "track" a couple weeks ago. It is VERY SMOOTH. the course is 1/2 mile with several Rt. & Lft turns and one long straight-a-way with lots of trees hanging over it,.... they will probably have the leaves swept away. The adjacent park roads are flat and smooth.

This seems like it will be a kick-ass race course !!!!!!!!!!!

I can't make it to this race, but it should be great and seems like an annual event.

The entire park and skate facility are fantastic !!!!

ENJOY !!!!!!

DANG DUDE!!! And you didn't even let me know you were coming! I would've given you a run for your money! :D

This course at Brian Piccolo Conty Park is very smooth but it does have LOTS of shellrock and a TOTAL shredder if you crash on it!

A pretty technical course as you have a few right hand turns and real speedy left turns with plenty of crossover skills to cover it!

A specially risky turn is the one inside the 1/2 miles course right after the long stretch where the finish line is. During that stretch, skaters pick up lots of speed and so your crossover skills have to be spot on and skaters have to keep composure.

In the year and a half I have been skating I have had 3 crashes, 2 of them have been in this corner. Once I clipped my own skates and the other, two skaters in front of me clipped skates and a bunch of us went down. End result... my broken wrist from which I am still recovering, 8 months later!

I am real happy that Miami is going to have a Marathon but I am not even sure I'll skate it... I still don't trust that corner ( or other skaters on it!) and I don't think my wrist can take a crash right now!
The best training for skating... is skating itself!

Get in on Tru-Rev's Pre-Race Prizes.

To participate you have to submit your completed race registration form by January 7, 2008 by 9 am either by fax or mail. Your registration form will be your entry to the contest. The first drawing will be held on Monday, January 7 and the winner will be posted on the Inline Planet Forum that day.

The prize for the first drawing will be a set of 8 Tru-Rev Saturn 100mm wheels. These are the same wheels that received nine gold medals at the U.S. Outdoor Nationals in May 07.

Registration form available at http://www.miamiinternationalinlinemarathon.com

Fax your form to 954-316-1681

Good Luck in the first contest and watch for the next prize to follow.

Shellrock. There is also a U-turn after a 5/8 mi. straight. So there is some heavy braking involved as well.

OK, Maybe Desmond can clear something up for me. In his original post it says awards for all age groups . . . But in a later post he says the 42k (marathon) is only for elite skaters . . .

Will none elite ie age group skaters be allowed to skate the marathon and what designates an elite skater?

Yes this is a question that I had on my mind as well.

Who is skating this great inaugural marathon? Is it only for the elite skaters, and your typical "advanced open" skater need not apply? Or is this a new marathon for all inline skaters, who wants to participate in, and promote the sport they love?

Need to know soon.

gneal is WRONG.

Their is NO UTURN on the course.

This course is much smoother then most popular skating venues held in U.S. In fact, this course was chosen by Pan American Championships not to long ago and it is the #1 consideration for U.S. Outdoor Nationals and any World Championship event if held in U.S. It has already been chosen for a World Cup event to be held in 2009.

The 42 K is open to all persons 13 years and higher. Detail age groups are on the registration form.

Thanks to everyone for your input and experiences on this course. This event looks like a good one and very diversified. Some odd comments from gneal thought you would be more supportive of such a great event in your own home town. Looks like you were mistaken on the route for this course.

This was my only comment, answering YOUR question with an honest, and inbiased answer. The 'official' marathon course shown in the front office of the velodrome uses the U-turn in it. I assumed this was the case. It was not. It is smooth, but as par for the course in Florida, it is shellrock. I do not see how this is odd. ALOT if skates that do Marathons do not like closed courses or U-turns, so I thought it only fair to let them know this (incorrect...SORRY) information, to make a determination on this race. I does have 2 RH turns at the same intersection, though, SO PAY ATTENTION. If you miss this turn, you will run into oncoming traffic!!! A course map on their website would be helpful, as along with better clarification/information on how the event will be run (chip timing, etc), like SPIM and NS do. South Florida is very conjested, so there are few places to do this and remain close to the rest of the meet. It is funny though, the MIAMI Marathon run within the PALM BEACH challenge...both being held in the greater FT. LAUDERDALE area.

Perhaps "Gneal" needs to say nothing about this course. He knows nothing about it and he is WRONG again. Gneal states: " I does have 2 RH turns at the same intersection, though, SO PAY ATTENTION. If you miss this turn, you will run into oncoming traffic!!! ". This simply is not true. The course will have traffic cones set up so their will be no way anyone would do such a thing. This course is the exact course of the Pan American Championships and there was NO complaints from all of the best speed skaters in the world. The course was approved by "Jorge Botero" (One of best skaters in World consistently for over a decade), "Ed Muelller" (Has coached World Class skaters and put on World class events consistently for over 2 decades), "Julio Polomino (park official) and myself Desmond Kameka (major sponsor) all of whom has extensive experience on making this event safe for all skaters.
