Heather Richardson won the 300 meter track sprint this morning at the start of the Banked Track and Road National Championships in Colorado Springs. Her time of 28.434 seconds set a new US. junior record.

Last year, she won three individual gold medals in the junior division of the World Speed Skating Championships in Suzhou, China. The medals came in the 300 meter time trial, the 500 meter track sprint and the 500 meter road sprint.

Richardson is a member of the High Point Speed Team in High Point, N.C., and has been skating since she was nine.
